Pinterest Drives More Traffic to Publishers Than Twitter, LinkedIn, Reddit Combined

Mashable reported yesterday that Pinterest drives more users to websites than any other social network, except for Facebook. This was actually news to me. I knew Pinterest was popular, but so popular that Twitter, LinkedIn and Reddit combined don’t even touch it?! What do you think? Do you use Pinterest? If so, do you use …

Status update

If you’re a frequenter of the site, you may have noticed just a few small quality-of-life improvements of the site lately. I have a new & improved Twitter feed widget to the right, which automatically cycles through the most recent tweets, and a new social media sharing tool that will not only provide you with the links to share, but also show counts of how many times the article has been shared on those sites. If you want to send feedback regarding any of these updates or other things you’d like to see different, please head over to the guestbook.

Envisioning the Future of Education

A colleague of mine shared this infographic with me: Envisioning the Future of Education, presented by Envisioning.io (or envisioningtech.com). One thing that I take away from this vision of the future of education is not all of the fancy technology (although that is obviously the point of the graphic), but rather that we’re seeing a …

Need to learn how to teach online?

Sorry for the late notice, but I just learned of a MOOC that is opening today entitled, “Online Instruction for Open Educators,” hosted for free on D2L’s open couseware site. As with most MOOCs, how much you get out of it will depend greatly on how much you put into it. Also, as per usual, …

How do you make your online course feel “human”?

Photo by Ben Russell (ben110) on Flickr. CC BY-NC-ND

Do you struggle with connecting with your students online? Do you wish you could develop the same meaningful relationships with them online as you do in a traditional classroom? Lots of teachers struggle with these concepts, because like or not, teaching online IS more difficult in terms of keeping education personal and “human.” I have …

I’m so excited! My about.me page was featured on the about.me blog page, and tweeted out to the world! I’m also going to take this opportunity to mention that I plan to start doing some occasional blogging again, as a way to share what I learn and hopefully create a dialog about issues and trends …

iPad Mini & e-learning

So yesterday, Apple announced the new iPad Mini. For the naysayers, it is indeed essentially an iPad 2 shrunk down to a screen size of 7.9″. This alone is better than it sounds, because since it keeps the same screen resolution but shrinks the screen dimensions, the screen will actually “look better.” It’s not a …

The survey for my research project is now closed. Watch this site for the results of the survey, and my complete research paper, once it is complete. I plan on experimenting with what a research paper might look like if presented on a WordPress blog…

Assessment Technology

This article is cross-posted from my class blog, Spring 2012. Reading through what the U.S. Department of Education considers the direction that we should be heading with the use of technology to aid in student assessment, I am reminded of just how far we still have to go with technological advancements in this country. The …
